Castwright v1.13.0 — phone & tablet listening out of the box, and a safety net for every language

Quick recap for anyone new: Castwright turns a book into a full-cast audiobook — every character in its own voice, kept consistent across a series — rendered locally on your own machine. Source-available (FSL), solo project, in beta. Here’s what’s new in v1.13.0.

Listen on your phone or tablet the moment you install. Reaching Castwright from another device on your network used to mean a special command and hand-made certificates. Now every install starts up ready: secure LAN-over-HTTPS is the default; it provisions its own certificates; keeps your paired devices paired across upgrades; and falls back safely to your own machine if certs can’t be set up.

On Pinokio, the one-click app now surfaces an Open Web UI button the instant the server is ready.

A fallback voice for every language — and Coqui XTTS as a casting choice. Non-English books (Russian, Spanish, French, German) used to be locked to a single engine, with no recovery path. Now an undesigned or briefly unavailable character falls back to a generic voice instead of stopping the chapter — the same safety net English books have always had — and Coqui XTTS joins Qwen as a first-class casting engine for those languages. (A mixed Qwen + Coqui chapter renders one engine at a time to stay within an 8 GB card.)

Also — accuracy and touch polish: the non-English quality gate now understands numbers and contractions; a stray name from a book’s introduction no longer sneaks into your cast; designing a whole cast rides out GPU contention instead of grinding through it; you can audition a voice before you assign it; and tablet controls are finally finger-sized.

Where it’s still honest: solo project, beta; voice cloning (“your own voice”) is still in development; I’d still love testers reading in Spanish, French or German, and anyone on an AMD card (supported via ROCm, but I’ve no AMD hardware to verify it myself).
