Castwright v1.11.0 — cast-first, and quality you can see
Quick recap for anyone new: Castwright turns a book into a full-cast audiobook — every character in its own voice, kept consistent across a series — rendered locally on your own machine. Source-available (FSL), solo project, in beta. Here’s what’s in v1.11.0.
Confirm a cast and you land on your cast. The flow is now Analyse → Cast → Manuscript → Generate, so you see your characters first, not the manuscript. And before a render starts, a pre-flight check ensures every speaking character actually has a designed voice — it lists any that don’t, in talk-time order, and offers to design the full cast rather than quietly shipping a generic stand-in (for non-English books, it won’t proceed without them).
Every book now shows its quality gate. The acoustic, transcript, voice-match, and cast-continuity checks that the pipeline already runs are aggregated into one honest card — on the Listen view after generation and live on the Generation view — and you can export it as text or JSON. It’s built on a “never show a false pass” rule: a check that didn’t run, or had nothing to check, never renders as clean.
Voice-match, made legible while it runs. Each character’s voice-match result now saves the moment it’s ready (cheapest voices first), with a live “checking X of Y” readout instead of a book sitting at “0 of N” the whole time. If a check gets interrupted, a “Resume scoring” button picks it back up, and a transient hiccup genuinely retries instead of settling into “can’t be checked.”
Faster on a Mac or a graphics-card-free machine. Multiple voices now render at full speed instead of queueing behind a small-GPU habit.
Also: a chapter that was stuck behind a confirmed fallback now actually starts, plus a run of casting, mobile and LAN-access fixes.
Where it’s still honest: solo project, beta; voice cloning (“your own voice”) is still in development; no OCR for scanned/image-only PDFs yet; and I’d still love testers reading in Spanish, French or German, and anyone on an AMD card (supported via ROCm, but I’ve no AMD hardware to verify it myself).
